NOW Drainage attended an emergency call-out from Wilton Town Council after the public toilets became blocked and could no longer be used properly.
The town centre public toilets are located on Greyhound Lane, just off the Market Square in Wilton, making them an important facility for residents, visitors and local businesses.
Our team got to work clearing the blockage, removing built-up scale and cleaning the drainage system to ensure the toilets were back in full working order.
The Problem – Blocked Public Toilets in Wilton
When we arrived, the public toilets were blocked and the drainage system was not flowing correctly.
Public toilet drainage systems deal with heavy use, so when blockages occur, they need to be cleared quickly and properly. In this case, the system had become restricted by a build-up inside the pipework, which needed specialist equipment to remove.
Clearing the Blockage
Our team used professional drain clearance equipment to access the affected pipework and remove the blockage from the system.
The blockage was cleared carefully to restore flow through the toilets and prevent the issue from continuing. Once the obstruction had been removed, the drainage system was tested to make sure it was working correctly again.
Descaling the Drainage System
As well as clearing the blockage, we also descaled the drainage system.
Scale build-up can reduce the internal diameter of pipework, which makes it easier for waste and debris to catch inside the drain. Over time, this can lead to repeated blockages if it is not properly removed.
Toilets Back in Full Working Order
Once the blockage had been cleared and the system had been descaled, the toilets were cleaned down and left fully working again.
This allowed the facilities to be put back into use safely and quickly, reducing disruption for Wilton Town Council and anyone relying on the public toilets.
Why Public Toilet Blockages Happen
Public toilet blockages are often caused by a combination of scale build-up, waste, toilet paper overload and items being flushed that should not enter the drainage system.
Water UK advises that only pee, poo and toilet paper should be flushed, as other items can cause blockages further down the sewer line. Wet wipes are also a major cause of sewer blockages because they do not break down like toilet paper.
