Now Drainage was called out to a blocked drain in Kinson, Bournemouth, after the customer experienced poor drainage and signs of waste backing up through the system.
Kinson is a residential suburb of Bournemouth, around four miles north of the town centre, with many established homes and older drainage runs. These systems can be more prone to blockages, silt build-up and damaged pipework over time.
The Problem – Blocked Drain Chamber
On arrival, our engineer inspected the external drain chamber and found waste build-up restricting the flow through the system.
The chamber showed signs of:
• Standing waste water
• Heavy debris build-up
• Restricted pipe flow
• Early signs of repeat blockage risk
Blocked chambers like this can quickly lead to foul smells, slow-draining toilets, overflowing gullies and further issues inside the property.
Drain Unblocking Equipment Used
We used specialist drain unblocking equipment to clear the blockage safely and restore normal flow.
The work included:
• Accessing the blocked inspection chamber
• Breaking down the blockage
• Flushing the drainage line
• Checking the chamber after clearance
• Confirming the system was flowing correctly
This approach removes the blockage properly rather than simply pushing it further down the pipe.
Before and After – Restoring Flow
The before photos show the chamber holding waste and debris, with the drainage system unable to flow as it should.
Once cleared, the pipework and chamber were visible again, allowing water to pass through correctly. Restoring flow at this stage helps prevent the problem from developing into a full external drain overflow.
Common Causes of Blocked Drains in Kinson
Blocked drains in Kinson and wider Bournemouth can be caused by:
• Wet wipes and sanitary products
• Grease and fat build-up
• Silt and debris entering external drains
• Tree root ingress
• Cracked or displaced pipework
• Older clay drainage systems
If the same drain keeps blocking, a CCTV drain survey may be needed to check for structural damage or root ingress.
